On February 1, 1998, Maitake Products, Inc., Ridgefield Park, NJ, proudly announced that the company has obtained its IND (Investigational New Drug Application) from the FDA to conduct a Phase II pilot study on the effect of Maitake Mushroom D-fraction Extract (D-fraction) on advanced breast and prostate cancer patients. The approved pilot study will investigate the effectiveness of orally-administered D-fraction in patients with late stage III or early stage IV adenocarcinoma of breast and prostate. This study will examine the effect of D-fraction on the size of solid tumors, tumor makers, immune assays, clinical characteristics of pain and weight changes as well as Karnofsky Score and Quality of Life Score.
