Cancer is a serious threat to the health of Chinese residents. In February 2022, the National Cancer Center released the latest issue of National Cancer Statistics (registration data in 2016).
In this study, data from 487 qualified cancer registries were used to analyze the cancer burden in China in 2016.
Data show that in 2016, there were about 4.064 million new cancer cases and 2.4135 million new cancer deaths in China. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in China and the leading cause of cancer death.
Statistics show that lung cancer is the most common cancer in men, accounting for about 24.6% of newly diagnosed cancers in men; Among women, breast cancer is the most common cancer, accounting for about 16.72% of all new cancers. Lung cancer is also the most common cause of cancer death in men and women.
The results of urban and rural analysis showed that the incidence rate of cancer in city areas was higher than that in rural areas. The incidence rate of cancer is highest in Southern China. The mortality rate in rural areas is slightly higher than that in urban areas, and the cancer mortality rate in Central China is the highest.
The incidence rate and mortality rate of cancer increased with age and reached peak value in age group 80-84 and 85 respectively. The 60-64 and 50-54 age groups had the highest number of cancer cases, while the 60-64 and 75-79 age groups had the highest number of cancer deaths in men and women. Overall, the incidence rate and mortality rate of men were higher than that of females, but incidence rate of females in the 20-49 year old group was higher than that in men.
