Tokugawa Ieyasu is a well-known hero in Japan and a generation of heroes who unified Japan. As the creator of an era, he ended hundreds of years of chaos in Japanese history and created the "Tokugawa Shogunate" in the Edo period. In the 300 years after him, Japan has entered a period of relative stability, but behind this miracle, there is a little-known story hidden.

The Battle of Sekigahara in 1600 was a famous battle in Japanese history. Hundreds of thousands of troops joined this time-consuming war. In 1603, Tokugawa Ieyasu, the always strong coach, suddenly fell ill, and he was dying of his illness for a long time. The doctors were helpless and could not cure Tokugawa Ieyasu's disease with many good medicines and methods.

On the one hand, the battle is rushing, and on the other hand, the coach's body is not as good as the day, and his life is not guaranteed. At this moment, a villager offered the Maitake he picked in the mountains. The villagers claimed that this is a secret recipe passed down from generation to generation in his family, which can cure many intractable diseases. After confirming that the mushrooms were non-toxic, the doctors let Tokugawa Ieyasu take it with the mentality of giving it a try. A miracle happened. Tokugawa Ieyasu, who was already unconscious, woke up and his physical condition improved. After recovering, Ieyasu Tokugawa seized the opportunity to defeat the battle of Sekigahara, and finally unified Japan and founded the Tokugawa Shogunate.

The court doctor later discovered that Maitake is not only a good medicine for curing diseases and life-saving, but also because of its non-toxicity, it can strengthen the body when eaten normally. Tokugawa Ieyasu himself also lived to be 74 years old, which was indeed rare at the time. As some historians have commented on him: its luck is that he lives longer than any competitor in the world. Maitake was designated as a royal tribute by the Japanese imperial family and became Japan's "palace national treasure."

More than a hundred years later, "Yamato Materia Medica" compiled by Yixuan Beiyuan of Japan and "Bacteria" by Haoran Motosaka recorded the medicinal value of Maitake mushrooms (Griver Maitake) from an academic perspective for the first time.
