Cancer is a serious threat to the health of Chinese residents. In February 2022, the National Cancer Center released the latest edition of National Cancer Statistics (2016 registration data).
In this study, the cancer burden in China in 2016 was analyzed using data from 487 eligible cancer registries.
According to the data, in 2016, there were about 4.064 million new cancer cases and 2.4135 million new cancer deaths in China. Lung cancer is the most common cancer in China and the largest cause of cancer death.
Statistics show that lung cancer is the most common cancer in men, accounting for 24.6% of newly diagnosed cancers in men; Among women, breast cancer is the most common cancer, accounting for 16.72% of all new cancers. Lung cancer is also the most common cause of cancer death in men and women.
The results of urban-rural analysis showed that the incidence rate of cancer in urban areas was higher than that in rural areas. The incidence rate of cancer in South China is the highest. The mortality rate in rural areas is slightly higher than that in urban areas, and the cancer mortality rate in Central China is the highest.
Cancer incidence rate and mortality increased with age, and peaked in the age group of 80-84 years and over 85 years, respectively. The 60-64 and 50-54 age groups had the highest number of cancer cases, while the 60-64 and 75-79 age groups had the highest number of cancer deaths in men and women. In general, the incidence rate and mortality of males are higher than that of females, but the incidence rate of females in the 20-49 age group is higher than that of males.
